Frontier Airlines will soon begin non-stop service from Las Vegas to two Mexican cities, airport officials at McCarran International Airport announced on Tuesday. The Denver-based low-cost carrier announced the new flights Tuesday, 28th to the two Mexican resort towns of Cancun and Cabo San Lucas. Altogether, the 6 new routes have been announced including the two Mexican routes that make the airline achieve the centurion mark by adding the one-hundredth city to its network (check “Frontier Airline Adds Texas as the 100th City to Its Network”).

The new service will take travelers from McCarran International Airport to San Jose del Cabo and Cancun, according to Frontier’s said Joshua Flyer, the Vice President of network planning and revenue for Frontier Airlines. According to Flyer, this will give them a better opportunity to serve the Las Vegas community with a total of 31 non-stop options being provided now by the airline.
Frontier Airlines plans to offer nonstop flights to these Mexican resort towns making it the first direct international service at the airport from a U.S.-based carrier in about 10 years, said Chris Jones, the chief marketing officer at the McCarran airport authority. At the moment most international service to McCarran is provided by foreign air carriers. Jones expects that this will make a fresh start for the onset of seasonal and event-based schedules as well as serve as a springboard for other U.S. carriers to jump in and begin offering non-stop flights to other international destinations out of McCarran.
Service to San Jose del Cabo will start from Dec. 15, with flights running on Saturdays only at the moment with flights leaving around noon and return by 7 p.m. For Cancun, service will commence on Dec. 21, with flights leaving at 10 a.m Mondays and Fridays every week with the return scheduled at about 8 p.m.
Adding these two destinations has a dual benefit. These beach resorts are amongst the hottest favorite destinations for American spring breakers and beach lovers. The destination has ample options for relaxation and high-life recreation that seem right out of the travel brochures. The beach has year-round sunshine and there is a wealth of romantic options like barefoot fine dining serving authentic Mexican cuisine, colorful sushi, oriental spiced soups and curries from the Indian subcontinent, horseback riding on secluded beaches, deep-sea fishing, wildlife-spotting of rarest species, glass-bottom boat rides, guided swimming with the dolphins, ATV tours, booze cruises, luxury spa and shopping in boutiques and avenues and astounding live music and hi-tech clubs; there’s all that one needs from an elegant vacation.
Coming to Las Vegas, is a destination of choice for obvious reasons. The flyer said that in Cancun there is plenty of market for the origin city of Las Vegas as a number of visitors are anticipated to use this as a means of taking their own vacation.
Frontier will further its reach into Mexico by implementing the existing code-share agreement with Mexican discount carrier Volaris.
This will help the ultra-low-cost carriers to cross-sell each other’s tickets via connecting flights to destinations covered by Volaris in Mexico and Volaris can sell seats on the Frontier network in the US, where the airline caters to 99 destinations. The agreement extends to ticketing and baggage services between both airlines. Cancun and Las Vegas are the primary connecting points between Frontier and Volaris airline, and Frontier owner Indigo Partners is a shareholder in Volaris airline added Flyer.
On all the routes, Frontier Airlines will be deploying its A-320 jets which have a capacity of 186 passengers.
